Linux and Logitech Unify Dongles: Part 2

 

As a continuation of my comment on Reddit (link), if you need to factory reset the Logitech K350 Keyboard you are in the right place.

References:
1.) Review the 9 pin layout mentioned at HERE.

On the back of the keyboard, remove the battery cover. If you haven't already taken the sticker off next to the batteries, do that now. This will expose the 9 PINs. To make sure you have them in the correct orientation, make sure the "ON/OFF" text on the switch is readable and not upside down.

2.) Switch the keyboard to "ON"

3.) Take a wire, or something metal, and touch it to both the GND and the /RESET pins.

These are the 'TOP RIGHT' (GND aka ground) and 'TOP CENTER'(/RESET) pins.

This will factory reset the keyboard, so that can then be paired with the Logitech dongle.

Note: I am working on Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS (Noble Numbat) with Logitech K350 ergonomic keyboard and M705 mouse.

Once you have connected the two pins, the battery light will turn on for a moment. This light is the one under the arrow keys on the front of the keyboard.

4.) Now that the keyboard is reset, you have to then re-pair it with the dongle. I use 'solaar', which is in Ubuntu's standard packages


sudo apt install solaar

5.) Run solaar gui

5a.) Switch the keyboard to "OFF"

5b.) Select your Logitech dongle and click "+ Pair a new device"

5c.) Switch your keyboard to "ON"

5d.) Wait a few seconds and you should see the dialog indicating that the keyboard is now paired. It took another 30 seconds before I was able to type with it.

Linux and Logitech Unify Dongles

Logitech Unify was a game changer, in relation to wireless input devices (keyboards/mice). The major problem with it is changing which dongle each of the input devices were paired with.   I have been using their combo keyboard/mouse package since it was originally released.  It works perfectly, but the letters on the keyboard keys keep rubbing off after too much use. This gets to the point of "How do you switch the keyboard" out with a new one?  On Windows and MacOS is easy.  Logitech provided software that can directly configure the dongle and what items are paired with it. Unfortunately, they never released anything for Linux.  I have been using Ubuntu for the longest time, so I will explain how to configure the dongles on Ubuntu 24.04.
